Silk Fly Lines

Silk lines are finer than plastic lines in the corresponding lines weight. This makes them more efficient casting in wind, and more delicate in presentation. Properly cared for, a silk line will outlast a plasic fly line several times over. Silk lines can also be used on graphite rods as well as bamboo.

Phoenix Silk Lines

Phoenix Silk produce the finest Silk Lines available today. Each line represents craftsmanship of the highest order. We offer these in DT 27 metre, available in natural (straw) or green. Each line comes with a tin of Mucilin for maintenance of the line.

Phoenix line (including a tin of Red Mucilin): $300

Additional tin of Red Mucilin: $10

Terenzio Arificial Silk Lines

These wonderful lines are made by Terenzio Zandri in Italy. Braided from synthetic fibres in the same traditional manner as silk, these lines fish and feel the same as silk, but without the same amount of maintenance. Lines are available in line weights from #0 to #6 (including fractional line weights such as #4 1/2), in 25 metre Double Taper configuration. Beautifully presented in an antique style line box with dressing and leaders, these offer performance and value in a traditional style line.

Terenzio Artificial Silk Line: $200

Terenzio Line Care
Out of the box, the Terenzio line will feel a little stiff to start with (though still very fishable). After a little use, the line will soften up, and will end up very supple, while still retaining low stretch and no memory. I usually pre dress the line the day before fishing, and wipe off any excess with a small piece of cloth when first lining up the rod at the start of the day's fishing. I keep some of the supplied line dressing in an empty/used Gink bottle, along with a little piece of rag, in a small ziplock bag in my vest. I often get through a full day of fishing without the need to re dress the line, or only applying a small amount of dressing to the last few feet of line (and leader butt) half way through the day. Note also that some other customers and friends have also been happy using Red Tin Mucilin as a dressing for their Terenzio lines.

FLY LINE WINDERS
Silk lines will last for a long time, but need to be cared for and should never be stored wet. A fly line winder is ideal for storing the line neatly off the reel to dry. A line winder is also handy for changing and storing plastic lines.

Fly Line Winder

This economical Line Winder is invaluable for removing silk lines from reels for storage and airing and initial spooling of new lines onto reels. Folds down for easy storage. Expands out for use, with a clamp for attachment to a bench and hndle for winding line off the reel.

Paul Bourne Custom Flies

We are pround to offer custom flies tied by leading Snowy Monaro guide, Paul Bourne. Paul's many years of experience as a fly angler, guide and fly tier go into his flies, both traditional and new patterns. As leading Australian fly designer and tyer Muzz Wilson says - the fly should (hopefully!) be the only part of our equipment that the fish sees - so use the best fly that you can. Paul's flies are available for order per dozen in a variety of patterns, or as boxed selections (ideal as gifts), presented in a Dewitt or Wheatley fly box. Paul Bourne flies are available through us, or contact Paul directly for your requirements.

CC Filson Clothing and Accessories

We are proud to offer a range of fine clothing and accessories from CC Filson in the USA. Filson has been a leading outfitter of the highest quality goods since 1897. Their motto is "Might as wel have the Best".

CC Filson Strap Vest
Like many others, I have had a never ending search for the perfect fishing vest for my style of fishing. My good fishing friend Troy put me onto the the Filson Strap vest a while back. Perfect! Justy the right amount of storage, adjustable to wear high or low, loose or firm, so you can fish with your hands over or under the pockets. The back is a flat flap pocket, which can be used for storage, or lays flat to allow a day or camera pack to be worn comfortably over the top. It's tough wearing, comfortable, cool, and classic looking. The fabric is hard wearing 6 oz cotton dry finish cover cloth - mine has had a few encounters with barbed wire fences and is none the worse for it! My search is over, and maybe yours is too...
FEATURES
- 1 large open pouch.
- Adjustable shoulder straps and 2 snap tab front closure.
- 2 front pockets with brass zipper closures, each with 4 dividers; 4 bellows pockets with snap flap closures; 2 interior flat pockets with snap flaps; 1 interior security pocket with snap flap.
CC Filson Strap Vest (size Regular or Super): $200

CC Filson Foul Weather Vest
This vest is a similar front pocket and adjustable design to the Strap Vest, but instead of the flat back pocket, has an integrated day pack. It is made from 6oz Oil Finished Water Repellent Cover Cloth.
FEATURES
- Water Repellent.
- 1 large rear rucksack; 1 large bellows pocket with snap flap closure.
- Adjustable shoulder straps and 2 snap tab front closure.
- 2 front pockets with brass zipper closures, each with 4 dividers; 4 bellows pockets with snap flap closures; 2 interior flat pockets with snap flaps; 1 interior security pocket with snap flap.
CC Filson Foul Weather Vest (size Regular or Super): $250

CC Filson Waist Pack
This small Waist Pack/Bum Bag is perfect for the minimalist angler, or can be worn in conjunction with other tackle storage. Like the full strap vest, these feature classic hardwearing Filson 6oz dry finish cover cloth. Ideal for an afternoon on the stream or the evening rise.
FEATURES
- 2 open flat back pockets.
- Adjustable webbed belt with heavy duty buckle.
- I large main pocket with 4 interior dividers; 2 front bellows pockets with snap flaps; 2 small open end pockets.
CC Filson Waist Pack: $110

CC Filson Tackle Pack
This Chest Pack is ideal for the angler who needs to carry a little more out on the water. With large front (double) and back pockets, there is room for everything you'll need to carry, including lunch (and maybe breakfast and dinner too). Like the strap vest and waist pack, these feature classic hardwearing Filson dry cover cloth finish and adjustable straps for custom fitting.

- Adjustable shoulder straps with 2 side webbed straps with snap closures.
- 1 front bellows pocket with snap flap closure; 1 front pack with two interior pockets, one with 7 interior dividers and one with 2 interior dividers; 2 front utility slots.

Goertzen Lanyards

Fellow bamboo rodmaker, Callum Ross, from the NSW Southern Highlands, showed me this neat Leather and Canvas Lanyard from Joe Goertzen, in Missoula, Montana. It looked so good I've ordered some in to offer here in Australia.

Goertzen Box Style Lanyard (click for picture)

We are offering the Goertzen Box Style Lanyard. These handmade lanyards are deisgned to fit a 6x3.5x1" Wheatley Box (they are also perfect for a large DeWitt box). It also has a belly strap to hold the lanyard against your body and stop it swinging around. The main pouch is made of high quality saddle leather. The neck strap is soft leather. Along with the Filson Waist Pack, this lanyard is a high quality option for the minimalist angler.

SPUDZ Lens/Glasses cloth

How often do you find yourself on the stream with dirty glasses or a splashed sense, and nothing to clean it but a grubby, wet fishing shirt? The Spudz is a small (1 1/2" x 2") neoprene sock which hangs from a clip. Inside tucks a soft lense cloth (6" x 6") conveniently available for immediate use. Peter Hayes showed me this great product at this year's Conclave at his place on Brumbies Creek. We teamed up to create some custom designs. Available in Brookie and now also Brown Trout over Weed.

Consignment of Australian and other Classic old rods
I've recently received a consignment of Classic old fly rods. Most are JM Turville rods, from the 1960s, and there are some Hardies and a few others too. I've gone over all of them and made taken some descriptive notes, and also details of signs of wear and other observations (included with the photos of each rod below). The rods have all been fished, and have signs of use, as you would expect for rods of this age, but I've tried to note the main points for each rod. Most look sound and would be able to be cast and fished without repair/restoration (unless noted below), but all are being sold "as is", with no guarantee or warranty. Prices are listed below, with postage for each rod being $20 within Australia. Prices are negotiable, including offers on multiple rods!!! (Click on thumbnail images below for larger images, and browser "back" button to return).

Renzetti Master Rotary Pedestal Vice plus assorted fly tying tools - SOLD
The vice has been used but is in good, smooth operating condition. Included is the vice with 3 position pedestal base, adjustable bobbin cradle (and additional C&F bobbin cradle with material clip), waste bag and vice shaft bracket for attachment, and a large selection of several brands of fly tying tools The tools are pictured below and from what I can see look in good condition (9 bobbin holders, 3 bobbin threaders, 4 dubbing spinners, 4 hair stackers, 8 hackle pliers, 6 whip finishing/half hitch toools, 2 scissors, 3 large Magic Tool Material Clips, 1 unopened Magic Tool Material Clip Kit, and assorted dubbing needles etc).

There is a tiny chip in one of the jaws of the vice, but this looks more cosmetic than anything. The chip is on the outside tip of the jaws (the inside clamping surface looks flat and unaffected). I've tested a size #24 in there and it seems to hold it fine. You could souce a replacement jaw/jaws Renzetti but I would just use it as is. I've included a closeup photo below of the chip in the jaw.

Saracione Islamorada #8 Black Left Hand Wind Lever Drag Fly Reel - SOLD

With a preset central drag position, the lever drag operates around this to control the powerful carbon fibre drag. Purchased in 2014, this reel is in immaculate condition and I believe it is unfished. Very collectable and very, very usable. Comes in the original box and with a Saracione fishing cap (unworn)!

Ari 'T Hart Remco fly reel - left hand wind - with two spare spools - Original early 1990s Holland made in aubergine colour SOLD
This is the VERY, VERY collectable original model, featured in the Museum of Modern Arts in New York. The reel and spools are in very good condition, with a few minor scratches and scuffs to the finish. The drag is silky smooth. There is one small thing to note with this reel - the clicker is not currently operational - but the clicker is only for sound and the drag operates independantly from it. The rubber "spring" that held the clicker tooth has come away from the housing on one side and the tooth for the clicker is missing (see 3rd photo below). It wouldn't be a huge job to re attach/glue the spring and add a new tooth for the clicker. Reel and one spare spool each in original leather case, second spare spool in separate case. A wonderful collectable reel to invest in or fish.

This rod was previously owned by Sir Kenneth Steele. Sir Kenneth was a noted businessman and angler, who featured in the writings of David Scholes. Classic Fly-Fishing Rods for Sale

The following split bamboo and greenheart rods were made by skilled craftsmen in England and Australia between 1951 and 1986. They embody all the desirable characteristics of the classic rods of a former era. But they are powerful fishing implements as well as being historical items of great beauty. The Partridge rods are part of the famous “Masters Series”, introduced when Alan Bramley took over the company. They were designed by the great bamboo rod maker Tom Moran (later joined Hardy) and made in conjunction with Homer Jennings (later moved to Colorado USA). These rods (which come with original bags) include:
